This work rethinks the function of the Watermelon symbol within the collective action against colonial hegemony and the ongoing fight for Palestinian liberation.

Instead of using the Watermelon as a safe/docile/softer/non-confrontational symbol, this work reverses the censorship of Palestinian symbols & narratives that disrupt the settler colonial project’s efforts to erase a deeply political and existential fight against colonialism.

Using fruit symbol as a tool of containment risks flattening the radical demands of decolonization; This work chooses to rather engage with the deeply-rooted, political symbols of defiance against erasure, dispossession and systemic violence

No freedom fighter will be seen wearing a Watermelon t-shirt

challenging colonial oppression requires embracing the collective symbols that the Palestinians themselves have fought to uphold — symbols embedded in collective memory — symbols of defiance, sacrifice, and the unwavering spirit of resistance.

يعيد هذا العمل النظر في وظيفة رمز البطيخ ضمن المقاومه الجماعيه ضد الهيمنة الاستعمارية والنضال المستمر من أجل تحرر فلسطين.

بدلاً من استخدام البطيخ كرمز آمن/مسالم/أقل حدة/غير- تصادمي، يعكس هذا العمل الرقابة المفروضة على الرموز والروايات الفلسطينية التي تعرقل جهود المشروع الاستعماري الاستيطاني لطمس نضال سياسي ووجودي عميق ضد الاستعمار.

استخدام رمز الفاكهة كأداة للاحتواء يُخاطر بتسطيح المطالب الجذرية لإنهاء الاستعمار؛ و يختار هذا العمل بدلاً من ذلك التفاعل مع الرموز السياسية المتجذرة بعمق للتحدي ضد الطمس و العنف الممنهج.

لن ترى أي مناضل من أجل الحرية يرتدي قميصاً عليه رمز بطيخ.

إن تحدي القمع الاستعماري يتطلب تبني الرموز الجماعية التي ناضل الفلسطينيون أنفسهم من أجل الحفاظ عليها - رموز راسخة في الذاكرة الجماعية - رموز التحدي والتضحية وروح المقاومة الثابتة..
