This work was created for Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah

A witness and survivor of the Ahli Baptist Hospital massacre in Gaza in October 2023

Dr. Ghassan witnessed the atrocities perpetrated by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip while working there as a doctor at the start of the war

This work was created to commemorate a beautiful moment of resistance by the martyred freedom fighter Ahed Abu Sittah

“ Goodbye, where are you going

Goodbye, you fragrant musk

Goodbye, with the flutter of every wandering bird ”

His name is Ahed Abu Sitta. He became the Martyr Ahed Abu Sitta.

Ahed was martyred defending his land against the invading Zionist gangs.

This artwork presents an Imagination of the Land, Above and Below

It pays homage to the men who fight empires and change history

In Dec 2023, Ahed appeared in a footage released by resistance fighters in Gaza after destroying an Israeli army tank. He joyfully jumped and shouted ‘Wala’at’, a slang Palestinian Arabic word which translates to "its burning"

Ahed comes from a political family in Gaza. His great-grandfather, Sheikh Saqr, was a Knight of the Palestinian desert & one of the leaders of the 1936 Palestinian revolution against the British occupation of Palestine.

Ahed is from "Deir al-Balah", which translates to "Monastery of the Date Palm", named after the grove of date palms that lay west of the city

This artwork references the symbolism & continuity of the resistance across generations.

It also points to the failure and complicity of the international community and the militaries of our world.

The martyr is adorned with the traditional embroidery of Gaza.

He holds a key in one hand, his weapon in the other, and a farmer's axe on his back

مع السلامة وين رايح

مع السلامة يا مِسك فايِح

مع السلامة مع رفة كل طير سارح

اسمه عاهد أبو سته. و صار اسمه الشهيد عاهد أبو سته.

عاهد استشهد مدافعاً عن أرضه و حقه ضد عصابات الغزاة الصهاينة

يقدم هذا العمل تخيلا للأرض، فوقها و تحتها

و يحكي عن رجال يحاربون الإمبراطوريات ويغيرون التاريخ

ظهر عاهد في ديسمبر 2023 في مقطع مصور نشره رجال المقاومه في غزه بعد تدميره دبابة إسرائيلية وهو يقفز فرحا صارخا: "ولّعت"، في إشارة لاحتراق الدبابة

يأتي عاهد من عائلة سياسية مناضلة في غزة، جده الأكبر, الشيخ صقر, كان فارس من فرسان بادية فلسطين و كان من قادة الثورة الفلسطينيه عام 1936 ضد الاحتلال البريطاني لفلسطين

عاهد من "دير البلح", و سميت بهذا الاسم على اسم مزرعة النخيل التي تقع غرب المدينة

يشير العمل إلى رمزية المقاومه و استمراريتها عبر الأجيال

كما يشير إلى فشل و تواطؤ المجتمع الدولي و الجيوش العسكريه في عالمنا

زُيّن الشهيد بالتطريز التقليدي لغزه، ويحمل المفتاح في يده، وسلاحه في الأخرى، وفأس الفلاح على ظهره.
